Showing love

A little while ago, I was walking along and I was thinking about these Bible notes that I follow online. There are a number of different people who do the commentaries, and it isn't the same person every day. Therefore, as is life, there is one commentator - for lack of a better word - that I find to be my favourite. So while I was walking along, I thought, "I hope they're doing the commentary today, they're really cool."

In the English language, there is a difference between 'like' and 'love'. However, I think that there is a real link between liking someone and showing them love.

The perfect love - the ultimate personification of love - is Jesus. He loves everyone, and wants us to do the same; Jesus gave us only two commandments to follow: to love God, and to love others (Luke 10:27). Therefore, if we like someone and show love to them, we are following one of the commandments that Jesus gave us.

And because Jesus loves everyone, when we like someone and show love to them, we are showing love to someone that Jesus loves as well. So when I was walking along and I was thinking, "I hope that person is doing the commentary, they're really cool", I can't help but wonder if Jesus was walking beside me and saying, "Yeah, they are really cool."

We haven't got up to Luke 10:27 in the online commentary that I'm following, and I don't know which commentator will be doing that passage, but I'm sure that when I reach it, I'll remember that walk and how whoever I love, Jesus loves them too.
